What is Fear? Fear is an emotional state that's evoked by threat of danger. And it's usually accompanied by physiological changes such as increased heart rate, as well as behavioural changes such as avoidance of fear-producing objects or situations. However, when it becomes irrational, it's no longer healthy and it could do us harm instead.  What is Irrational Fear?   Irrational fear is fear that isn't  situationally appropriate. In other words, it's out of proportion to the actual threat. And it can be a symptom of some mental health conditions , such as PTSD and panic disorder. What is Trauma? Trauma is the emotional, psychological and physiological residue that results from heightened stress that accompanies experiences of threat, violence and life-challenging events. In the case of physical trauma, it's the result of a serious injury. There are two types of physical trauma: blunt-force trauma and penetrating trauma . In the case of emotional trauma, it can either be acute or chronic.  Acute trauma is defined as "the emotional response that happens during and shortly after a single distressing event."
