5 Ways to Overcome Your Irrational Fears

Image
What is Fear? Fear is an emotional state that's evoked by threat of danger. And it's usually accompanied by physiological changes such as increased heart rate, as well as behavioural changes such as avoidance of fear-producing objects or situations. ( https://www.oxfordreference.com/view/10.1093/oi/authority.20110803095812704 ) A certain amount of fear is necessary for our own good. That's healthy fear, as I'd like to call it. However, when it becomes irrational, it's no longer healthy and it could do us harm instead.  What is Irrational Fear?   Irrational fear is fear that isn't  situationally appropriate. In other words, it's out of proportion to the actual threat. And it can be a symptom of some mental health conditions , such as PTSD and panic disorder. According to the author of Conquering Fear, an overdose of fear can keep us perpetually tense, emotionally closed and paralysed to the point of inaction.   (Pg 24)  Do we want any of these? Sad Music is Cathartic?

Image
Introduction Sad music often evokes a range of emotions and for many, it serves as a powerful tool for catharsis. While some may shy away from the melancholic tones, others find solace and healing in the depths of these songs.  In this blog post, we'll delve into the reasons why sad music resonates with us, its potential benefits for emotional regulation and how it can provide comfort, especially for those dealing with depression. Sad Music is Cathartic? Personally, I believe that certain sad music/sad songs are able to bring about a cathartic release to people who listen to them. At least that is true for me.  An article on wellness.pittsburghsymphony.org  states that sad music could help listeners to regulate their emotions in a productive manner.  This is because when they listen to sad music, they're actually processing sadness through music rather than ignoring it. And as a result, they  experience catharsis and improvements in mood.  According to the ...

Healing at the Speed of Sound

Image
The Healing Power of Music: A Double-Edged Sword Music has long been celebrated for its ability to evoke emotions and create connections. After diving into The Mozart Effect ,  I became convinced of music's healing power. However, not all music serves this purpose.  In this blog post, we’ll explore the dual nature of music—how it can heal and uplift, as well as how certain genres may not be suitable for those seeking solace. Join me as we delve into the profound impact of sound on our lives and wellbeing. Music Can Heal I believe that certain types of music could heal, for example, music that could bring out deeply-buried emotions, because such music (to me) could provide a cathartic outlet.  Music Can Oppress In my view, heavy metal music sounds oppressive and therefore isn't suitable for people who are dealing with addictions. And by extension, it isn't suitable for those who are in any kind of bondage as well.  So if you want to use music for healing, I'd suggest ...
