Does Mental Health Matter?

Image
Definition of Mental Health According to American Heritage dictionary , mental health is "a state of emotional and psychological well-being in which an individual is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society, and meet the ordinary demands of everyday life". Mental Health Takes a Backseat in Our Lives When Everything Goes Well In a modern society with a hectic pace of life, we tend to neglect our mental health until a crisis unsettles us and affects our mental wellbeing. The current Covid-19 pandemic is a case in point in that it does have an impact on our mental health. If we'd been taking care of our mental health prior to the pandemic, it might not have unsettled us the way it apparently has, as evidenced by an increase in calls to mental health helplines .   Personally, I think that the more hectic life is, the more we could not afford to neglect our mental health. In fact, when life gets more hectic and more stressful, we should ...

Moving On

Image
Introduction Moving on from deep traumas can feel like an insurmountable challenge. As  Joel Osteen  wisely states, the first step is making a conscious decision to move forward. ( quotefancy.com ) This blog post explores practical strategies for letting go of past pain, setting boundaries and prioritising your emotional and physical wellbeing. How to Move On? How do you move on after having experienced deep traumas? Maybe like what Joel Osteen has said, you have to make a decision that you're going to move on. That could be a good starting point.  Going over in your mind, again and again, whatever people have done that has caused the deep traumas won't help you to move on.  On the contrary, it might keep you stuck in your past. Moreover, the people who've done you wrong might not even be sorry.  So why torment yourself by holding on? Let go and move on instead for the sake of your own emotional and mental wellbeing . And let go for the sake of your physical hea...

Let Your Mind Take a Break

Image
Introduction   In our fast-paced world, true rest often takes a backseat. But sometimes the most productive thing we can do is simply to stop, pause, and allow our minds to rest.  By giving ourselves permission to take mental breaks, we invite clarity, calm and a renewed sense of energy.  In this post, we explore why mental rest matters and how brief moments of stillness can make a big difference in our lives. Why Rest ? Rest might seem a waste of time to some people, but it's necessary for one's overall wellbeing. By "rest", I'm not referring to sleep. Rather, I mean doing nothing. Specifically, I mean letting one's mind take a break, as in not doing any kind of thinking.  According to psychologytoday.com , "the practice of not-thinking is restful, calming and restorative". And when life gets overwhelming, it's even more important that we allow our minds to take a break so that we don't suffer from burnout eventually. Why Do You Need to Le...

Healing at the Speed of Sound

Image
The Healing Power of Music: A Double-Edged Sword Music has long been celebrated for its ability to evoke emotions and create connections. After diving into The Mozart Effect ,  I became convinced of music's healing power. However, not all music serves this purpose.  In this blog post, we’ll explore the dual nature of music—how it can heal and uplift, as well as how certain genres may not be suitable for those seeking solace. Join me as we delve into the profound impact of sound on our lives and wellbeing. Music Can Heal I believe that certain types of music could heal, for example, music that could bring out deeply-buried emotions, because such music (to me) could provide a cathartic outlet.  Music Can Oppress In my view, heavy metal music sounds oppressive and therefore isn't suitable for people who are dealing with addictions. And by extension, it isn't suitable for those who are in any kind of bondage as well.  So if you want to use music for healing, I'd suggest ...
